The Gouffre de Proumeyssac in the Dordogne, named the Crystal Cathedral, is a huge underground vault with the most amazing stalactite and stalagmite formations I’ve ever seen, all formed by dripping water.

Being lowered down a dark hole in the ground in a cage in complete silence and darkness has to be one of the scariest things I have done while living in the Dordogne. However, to then find myself suspended in the middle of the massive Gouffre de Proumeyssac with a magical scene being slowly revealed all around me turned the experience into one of the best things I have done here.
If you would like to read more, there is a chapter about this amazing place in my book, My Dordogne Life, available on Amazon.
