The French are passionate about hunting for cèpes French and finding my first elusive mushroom was a glorious moment.

In all the time I’ve lived in the Dordogne I had never gone hunting for cèpes in the woods, even though I’ve always wanted to. So, I was delighted when my partner suggested we go off searching for the large, fat mushrooms that grow in forests around oak and chestnut trees, also known as the tête de negre. Following some light rain the day before and still mild temperatures, the weather conditions were perfect and we set off all excited with a basket, knife and two long sticks we used to bash away the brambles and branches.
